Feedback from Sycamore Apartments in Danville (Spring 2008) - Senior Workshop
Our facilitator, Poppy, relayed positive outcomes from her experience during the workshop: “After class, one of the clients (the only male) commented how he really likes the structure of the class: the taste test first, then the learning that is so interest-ing with activities that reinforce the topic, then the recipe & eating.” Poppy also said, “the resident manager mentioned that during the week she has over heard several people talking to other residents about how much they enjoyed the class, or what they learned, or encouraging others to come.”
Workshop participants also had positive feedback. One participant said her favor-ite things about the class were “the friendliness and interesting way the information was presented, and the examples shown...the amount of sugar in a coke was meas-ured out in actual sugar!” Another participant said, “[This class] has helped me look at what is in the product and to try things I’ve never eaten before,” and an-other said, “I liked it all. Keep up the good work!”

Feedback from Villa Loma in Carlsbad (Winter 2008) - Kids Workshop
Overall, this workshop was well attended and the students were eager to participate. The interactive activities were especially popular with this group. In a class summary, one of our facilitators noted, “the sugar demonstration absolutely floored the kids. Even the kids who admitted to being regular soda drinkers couldn't believe how much sugar is in a coke and a Big Gulp.”
We also received positive feedback from participants. A few participants wrote about things they learned on the evaluation forms: "I learned that garbanzo beans make hummus" and "I learned that vitamins can change the color of food." Another student said, "thank you so much for teaching us about food and diet. Thank you!"

Feedback from Sage Canyon in San Diego (Winter 2008) - Spanish Family Workshop
We received much positive feedback from this workshop. Many participants mentioned positive changes they have made as a result of attending the class in their evaluation forms. One participant said, "yes, I've changed, because now in my shopping I include grains, fruits and vegetables that I didn't eat before." Another participant explained, "what I liked the best was everything I learned about nutrition, and all of the recipes were quick and easy to prepare."
Our facilitators also had positive feedback to share with us:
“Everyone else said they were eating more and more veggies, and feeling the difference in their lives. One of the women, who before only ate once a day, looks a lot better than she did, she has color in her skin and has more energy.”
“He and his wife have reported several times that they feel a lot better after starting the class and have changed their lives.”
“They were very aware of the different food groups that their foods belonged in and had been conscious when making their dinner choices. They didn't know that so many different types of bean existed and hadn't tasted many of them.”
“Class went really well this week, everyone is really getting into it and participat-ing. They support each other, laugh with each other, and encourage each other. It's really inspiring to see!”

Feedback from other workshops:
“I find myself buying more fruits and vegetables...cantaloupe, cabbage, broccoli...I’m more conscious of what I’m buying. I still want my daughter to have snacks, but I want them to be more healthy that what I eat. Before this workshop, I wouldn’t have thought to buy yogurt for a baby! Now I find myself smashing bananas in a bowl...I’m just trying to keep her healthy.”

"I learned how to give my kids healthy food. I now substitute fruit water for soda, and my kids enjoy pita pizzas and salad. They are eating so much healthier, and also helping me cook. This is good because we don't have enough time together as a family. As for me, I gave up Coke and now eat breakfast every day. I bring my lunch instead of buying fast food. I used to wake in the middle of the night to eat, but now I don't! I've also started going back to eating more traditional foods because of this class. I learned how to freeze small portions, and my kids help me so even though it takes a little more time it's so much healthier."

“This week I substituted the yogurt parfaits for ice cream - my kids loved them and didn’t even realize what a healthy choice they’d made! Plus, even though I’m trying to lose weight, I got to eat too.”

"I didn't even know whole wheat pasta existed...and my kids actually ate it!"
